Why Social Media Can Be a Positive Space for Therapists

Today, we hear the term "social media" tossed around everywhere. It’s the center of our digital world, but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Remember in 2021 when the “Make Instagram Casual Again” movement started? That’s where I see the real beauty of social media. It’s not about comparison; it’s about connection.

Rather than using it to measure ourselves against others, I like to think of social media as a platform to connect with like-minded people, discover new passions, and embark on new adventures. It’s a space to show up as your most authentic self—and in my view, that’s the only way to truly make social media work. Authenticity is key.

You might be asking, "But what about AI?" Well, I see AI as a helpful tool for brands. It can assist in finding the perfect words to express a message. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t run this article through AI to ensure my tone connects with more people. But these words are still mine. This is still how I feel. In social media, people can easily tell when something isn’t real or organic. So, use AI wisely, and think of it more as a tool than a permanent solution.

Today's audience craves realness. They want to see what you’re creating. They want to connect with you on a personal level, relate to you, and cheer you on. Yes, negativity exists, and there’s a toxic side to social media, but focusing on authenticity helps combat that.

So, how do therapists fit into this? Well, the world needs positivity and motivation now more than ever. You need your message to reach those who need it, and that’s where social media managers come in. Use them to your advantage to keep your social media presence consistent, engaging, concise, and most importantly—authentic.

Social media doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. It can be fun, exciting, and even empowering when done right. So, let’s focus on building safe, positive spaces online!
